Highlanders Baseball

The Highlanders finished in third place in the Red River Regional July 23, narrowly missing out on a bid to the NBC World Series.  The Highlanders were defeated by the Enid Pilots 8-0 in a game which had a World Series bid on the line. The Highlanders did avenge an earler loss to the El Reno Braves, by defeating El Reno 14-2 in the second round of the Red River Regional.  The Highlanders also won their third round game against the Oklahoma Black Sox, 3-2, and finished 2-2 in the Red River Regional.  Look for the Highlanders to again compete for an NBC World Series bid in the 2007 season, and watch for updates, including a potential return to the Walter Johnson League, beginning with the 2008 season.

The Walter Johnson League
The Walter Johnson is an eight team amateur baseball league based primarily in Central Kansas. The WJL is an NBC affiliated premier league, which guarantees at least one Walter Johnson team a bid to the NBC World Series every season.  Although the WJL does not recieve as much attention as other high profile leagues such as the Jayhawk or MINK League, its teams are very competitive nationally, and always represent the league well in World Series competition. The 2006 WJL is comprised of the following teams: Butler County Cubs, Dodge City Desperados, Newton Rebels, Salina Blue Jays, Wichita Braves, Wichita Rattlers,  and Wichita Gators.

Wichita Highlanders Baseball

Welcome to the official web page of the Wichita Highlanders collegiate baseball organization. The Highlanders have been in existence since 1992, playing in Lindsborg and McPherson, KS from 1992-2002, and Wichita during the 2003 season, before taking a leave of absence from the Walter Johnson League. This season, the Highlanders are re-organizing to again take aim at the NBC World Series.  This year's team will feature many ex-college players from throughout Kansas, as well as current collegiate players from throughout the Midwest.
